Safe Speed Midwest is a collaborative traffic safety initiative led by the Midwest Center for Traffic Safety, designed to unite law enforcement agencies across the region in a coordinated effort to address speeding and aggressive driving.

Through high-visibility enforcement, public education, and community engagement, participating agencies contribute to a sustained regional presence that reinforces safer driving behaviors
Participation is designed to be flexible and accessible. Agencies my utilize existing traffic safety grant, dedicated traffic enforcement assignments, or routine patrol activities. Every agency, regardless of its size or available resources, has an opportunity to contribute.
HOW PARTICIPATION WORKS
Provide basic departmental information, including sworn staffing levels, basic historical crash data, existing enforcement activity, and current outreach efforts.
Conduct traffic safety activities using your existing personnel, assignments, or grant resources. There are no minimum enforcement quotas or staffing requirements.
Submit a simple monthly activity report. MCTS will handle the final analysis and prepare the overall campaign results, showcasing the collective impact across the region.
You provide the activity. We measure the impact.
MCTS takes care of the data analysis, final reporting, and regional recognition - so your agency can focus on what you do best: keeping your community safe.

Participating agencies receive a comprehensive campaign toolkit, including large roadside banners, yard signs, posters, palm cards, and social media graphics to support your enforcement and public education efforts.
DEPARTMENT & OFFICER RECOGNITION
Safe Speed Midwest recognizes the law enforcement agencies and individual officers who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to improving roadway safety throughout the region. These awards celebrate outstanding enforcement efforts, innovative public education strategies, community engagement, and leadership in advancing traffic safety.

Award recipients will be recognized and formally presented with their awards at the Midwest Traffic Safety Conference, where their accomplishments will be highlighted among law enforcement professionals and traffic safety partners from across the region.

Recognition is based on the quality, commitment, and impact of an agency's efforts, not simply the size of its department or the number of citations issued.
Top Agency Award
Recognizes the participating law enforcement agency that demonstrates exceptional overall performance throughout the Safe Speed Midwest campaign. Selection will consider enforcement activity, public education efforts, community engagement, and the agency's overall commitment to advancing the campaign's mission.
Community Impact Award
Honors an agency that goes beyond traditional enforcement to make a meaningful impact through public education, community partnerships, creative outreach, and innovative approaches to promoting safer driving behaviors. This award celebrates agencies that find effective ways to engage their communities and strengthen traffic safety awareness.
Outstanding Officer Award
Recognizes an individual law enforcement officer who demonstrates exceptional dedication, initiative, and leadership in traffic safety enforcement and education.
